Super League: Mason Lino try sees Wakefield claim last-gasp victory over Hull KR

Mason Lino converted his own last-gasp try as Wakefield snatched a thrilling 26-24 win against defending Super League champions Hull KR.

Samoa scrum-half Lino marked his 100th Super League appearance by darting over in the closing moments to level the score at 24-24 before adding the extras to seal Wakefield a third straight win and lift them up to third in the table.

Rovers looked set to bounce back from last week's Challenge Cup final defeat to Wigan with an eighth straight Super League win after Tyrone May's late try, but Lino had the last word.

Trinity led 16-12 at the break thanks to scores from Oliver Pratt, Cam Scott and Josh Rourke, with Rovers replying through Mikey Lewis and Jai Whitbread.

Matty Storton's second-half touchdown put Wakefield 20-12 ahead before Rovers hit back through Sam Luckley and May, but it was not enough to stave off another bitter defeat.

Wakefield paid tribute and also held a minute's applause before kick-off for former club stalwarts John Kear and Geoff Oakes, who both died last week.

TV pundit Kear, who coached Wakefield for five years until 2011, was co-commentator at Wembley for last week's Challenge Cup final and died suddenly the following day, aged 71.

Oakes, a two-time Challenge Cup winner with the club in 1960 and 1962, died last Saturday, aged 88.

Following an attritional opening 16 minutes, Wakefield wing Pratt had Trinity fans on their feet when he raced onto Lino's pass and went over in the corner.

Lino was sent to the sin bin soon after for a high tackle on Rovers wing Joe Burgess, who was also shown a yellow card for his part in the incident.

Home fans were left furious when referee Aaron Moore awarded the visitors a penalty when Rovers centre Peta Hiku was bundled into touch, and from the next play Lewis went over for his side's first try to rub salt into the wound.

Wakefield responded with two tries in as many minutes. Centre Scott scampered over before full-back Rourke completed a fine solo effort from halfway following Caius Faatili's offload.

Rovers hit back to cut the deficit to 16-10 before half-time when Whitbread collected Tyrone May's kick to touch down for his side's second converted try.

Wakefield burst out of the blocks after the restart as back row Storton crashed through three tackles against his former club for their fourth try of the match.

Rovers then struck back with a try out of nothing as prop Luckley gathered a lucky bounce to gallop over, and with Rhyse Martin converting, the gap was cut to 20-18.

The visitors were given a further boost - and the home fans were left stunned - when Storton was sent off for a high tackle on James Batchelor with 20 minutes remaining.

But shortly after, Rovers were reduced to 12 men themselves as Sue was shown red for swinging an arm on Tray Lolesio.

Rovers stand-off May then produced a moment of magic to dummy his way over for a brilliant converted score to make it 24-20 for the visitors, who edged ahead for the first time in the game.

Hiku's effort for Rovers was ruled out after a lengthy check by the video referee with eight minutes left, and with the clock ticking down, Lino squeezed over for Trinity to tie the scores before he landed the match-winning conversion.

Rock-bottom Huddersfield Giants lost 36-16 to Toulouse Olympique in a Super League basement battle on Saturday.

Giants fell behind in just the fourth minute when Cesar Rouge's grubber kick sent Henry O'Kane through to score.

Huddersfield got on the scoreboard just a few minutes later with a carbon-copy try after Tuimoala Lolohea's kick was snaffled by Joe Greenwood, but the reprieve was short-lived.

Toulouse pushed ahead again just before the quarter-hour mark when winger Paul Ulberg stepped inside and found a gap, before the Giants defence parted again to allow Mathieu Jussaume to score soon after the midway point of the first half.

When Ethan Quai-Ward then latched on to another Rouge kick and Jake Shorrocks nailed his fourth successful conversion, Huddersfield were 24-4 down after less than half an hour.

George Flanagan reduced the arrears, thanks in part to the video referee, and converted his own try to leave the Giants trailing by 14 at half-time.

After the break the video ref ruled no knock-on to give Jussaume another try, with Shorrocks increasing the lead to 20 again.

Toulouse lost Anthony Marion to the sin bin for a nasty tackle and Huddersfield briefly came to life, with Jacob Gagai going over, but O'Kane's second try finished them off and signed off a comprehensive victory for the visitors.
