LPGA Tour: Jeeno Thitikul storms to big Mizuho Americas Open victory and closes on Nelly Korda's world No 1 spot

Jeeno Thitikul cruised to a four-shot victory on the final day of the Mizuho Americas Open in New Jersey.

Thitikul took a two-shot lead into Sunday and mixed four birdies with a lone bogey during a final-round 69, pulling her four shots clear of closest challenger Ruoning Yin.

Yin had started four back to get within one shot with three holes to play, following five birdies in her front nine, only for her to bogey the par-three 16th as Thitikul made birdie.

Thitikul added a birdie on the final hole to extend her winning margin, ending the week on 13 under, with Yin claiming solo second despite finishing her final-round 69 with two bogeys on the back nine.

Victory was Thitikul's ninth of her LPGA Tour career and second of the season, following her success at the Honda LPGA Thailand in February, with the win seeing her close the gap on Nelly Korda as world No 1.

Alison Lee shared third spot on eight under with Gaby Lopez and Jenny Bae, with Allisen Corpuz and Jenny Shin a further two strokes back in tied-seventh.

Celine Boutier, played in the final group with Thitikul, had three bogeys and no birdies on the front nine to fall out of the chase and eventually ended tied-ninth after a three-over 75.

Saki Baba recorded her first career ace on the LPGA Tour, holing from 153 yards with a seven-iron at the par-three seventh.

The LPGA Tour heads to Ohio for the Kroger Queen City Championship, beginning Thursday at Maketewah Country Club, with Charley Hull returning as defending champion. or .
